Sunday School at First Church
Growing Together in Christian Fellowship Sunday Mornings, 9:00 a.m.
Welcome to First Church's Sunday school
At First United Methodist Church, Sunday school is for all ages. We have nursery class with three teachers
to care for the age range of infants to two years old. Babies and toddlers are exposed to Bible songs and stories while their parents are
able to go to an adult class on the same floor. Preschool, Kindergarten/First Grade, Early Elementary, Middle Elementary, and Youth Classes
all have two teachers that provide Bible teaching with age appropriate curriculum ranging from readings in workbooks, games, activities, and
crafts that bring the stories of the Bible to life.
Every morning before individual classes begin, all the children and teachers meet to share prayers and
sing. The children share their own individual prayers in a group setting and learn that their lives are important to God and their church
family. The children learn songs for a Christmas and spring musical and our summer Vacation Bible School every morning before the Sunday
school classes begin. Our adult class has become a favorite part of our FUMC’s spiritual journey as they learn, laugh, and pray together.
We begin opening circle on Sundays at 9:00a.m. in the main sanctuary. Sunday School classes are from 9:15a.m. to 10:00a.m. followed by a
snack in our vestry before worship begins at 10:30 a.m
During the worship service, children are also invited to the front to have learning and sharing time with
our pastor or another lay minister. After, infants and toddlers are invited to the nursery with care by two adult volunteers. Our Sunday
school year runs from September to June and we have one week of Vacation Bible School during the summer that both children and adults look
forward to. Currently, our church is developing “Safe Sanctuary” policies, designed to protect the safety of our children. Policies
ranging from recruiting, training, and screening volunteers and staff to abuse reporting procedures to parent training are currently being
put in place by our Safe Sanctuary Committee.
