Bible Study
First United Methodist Church’s members are committed to adult Christian
education. We offer a number on ongoing studies and groups, as well as short-term
seasonal and topical studies.
Adult Sunday School
Sunday Mornings at 9:15 AM during Children’s Sunday School Hour before worship
Thursday Morning Bible Study
This Bible Study meets every Thursday morning at 10:00 AM for a study of
a book of the Bible led by the pastor. Currently we are studying the last eight
books of the New Testament, sequentially, from the Book of James through the
Book of Revelation.
Women of Today
The Women of Today meet the second Saturday of every month from 9:30-11:00
AM for a study relating to women’s lives and spirituality. Women of all ages
are welcome.
Disciple Bible Study
The Disciple Bible Study series is a United Methodist developed curriculum.
Students of Disciple commit to a 32-36 sessions weekly study of the Bible. Disciple
I covers the bulk of the Old and New Testaments in an overview. Disciple II-IV
studies various specific parts of the Old and New Testaments from Genesis and
Exodus, to the prophets, to the letters of Paul, and the gospels.
Seasonal & Topical Studies
We offer short-term studies based on the different seasons of the Christian
Year, such as Advent-Christmas, Lent-Easter. From time to time we will also
offer topical studies of current interest around social issues and current events.
Membership Classes
Those who wish to be members of First UMC need
to attend a 3-6 week class which will introduce them to basic Christian and
United Methodist church history and belief, as well as what it means to be a
member of a church.
United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a million-member
organization of the United Methodist Church whose purpose is to foster spiritual
growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. The local unit of the First
United Methodist Church meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at 9:30a.m. to learn
about various church and community ministry and to plan for various ministries
of mission. Currently there are three "circles" (smaller groups of the UMW members)
of women who meet for fellowship at various times, once a month. All women are
invited. For further information, contact Marcia Holmes at 668-5477 or Pat Johnson
