Breakfast with Jesus
Have you ever had a breakfast with Jesus? If not, we have an open invitation to have
four breakfasts with Jesus. All men,
regardless of age, are invited to join together to have breakfast with Jesus on
the last Saturday of the month. At 6:30 a.m. on last Saturday of the month, we
gather for prayer at the church kitchen and then we prepare breakfast
sandwiches and hot coffee not only for us but also for those in our community
who are staying cold nights on the streets and under the bridges. We bring those sandwiches and coffee to the
homeless and share breakfast with them. I am sure it will not just be the
breakfast but the heart of Jesus that we share with our brothers and sisters on
the street. They are Jesus with whom we have breakfast because Jesus told us
so. “I
was hungry and you gave me food… Lord when was it that we saw you hungry and
gave you food….` Truly I tell you, just as you did it
to one of the least of the least, you did it to me”(Matthew 25:35 and
under)
We serve about 50 breakfasts each time.
Small Easter
Beginning Sunday March 5th, there will be an
informal yet inspiring celebration of small Easter at 6pm in the
sanctuary. We will gather to celebrate
what God has done in and through us during that past week leading us to
experience new life in Christ. There
will be singing of hymns and gospels songs with guitar and other instruments,
both personal and collective prayers, listening to one another for stories and
inspiration, sharing of Bread and Cup, and receiving of oil for healing at each
gathering.
This will be a time of experiencing God’s renewing grace
through a different form of worship and praise.
It is open to everyone including that special person whom you might have
been praying for. Please come and
celebrate the resurrecting spirit of God, not just on Easter, but in all
Sunday.
Soup of Grace, Bread of Life
During the Lent, we are called to observe fasting. Lent calls for fasting primarily two
purposes: one is to participate in the suffering of Jesus and the other is to
abstain from things that would keep us away from God and God’s will. Do you know that many in the streets of our
city are fasting at least a meal a day every day? Most of shelters in our city do not or cannot
provide lunch for the homeless. They
have to skip lunch if they cannot afford it.
While we are called to observe fasting, some of our neighbors need
simple things as bread and soup to fill their hunger. Our fasting can be their feasting at least
one meal a week to begin with! Here is
how it is going to work.
During the season of lent, we will fast at least a meal a
week. Then we are asking those who will
fast to donate the value of that meal (about $5 or more) to our feeding ministry. Beginning March 8th at every
Wednesday, we will bake bread and prepare hot soup and bring them to Victory Park (the park across from Manchester
Public Library) to share with our neighbors who need the warmth of Christ. We will be there every Wednesday at noon to
bring the soup of grace and bread of life for our brothers and sisters in whom
Jesus is living as he lives in us.
There is a sign up sheet in the back of the sanctuary for
those who can prepare, serve, and donate for this effort. Of course, you need to fast first.
